Check Out These Cake Recipes

Found these recipes this morning while going through Granny’s recipe box.  I thought I would share them.

The first cake, is a Plain Cake.  It can be used as cup cakes as well.  It was given to my Granny in 1950 by Grace Ray.  I haven’t the foggiest who Grace Ray is to my Granny.  Perhaps a neighbor or a friend.  I will have to find out because she has given Granny several recipes……

Plain Cake

Mix together in a bowl…

2 cup plus 2 T. flour

3 t baking powder

1 1/2 c. sugar

1 t. salt

Add: 1/2 cup shortening, 1 cup milk Beat 2 min. on electric mixer.  Add 2 eggs and beat 2 more min.  bake at 350 degrees until done.

The next recipe was given to Granny by Kay Cornett in 1986.  Kay is married to Lowell Cornett.   Lowell is my second cousin.  I have spent a many a night with Kay and Lowell.  Kay has always been an inspiration to me and she has left several comments on my blogs.  She was highly thought of by Granny because she always sent her letters.  Granny gave me one that Kay had written about me the day I was born.  It is a treasured letter to say the least.

6 Minute Chocolate Cake

1/2 c. oil

1 tsp baking soda
