Catch-Up

July 5th, 2010

Last Tuesday morning, my DH and I were in the kitchen.  I was beginning to blog and he was doing his usual thing on our PC.  All of a sudden..

kaboom!

The house shook.  We ran to the kids’ bedrooms telling them everything was okay.  Once they were settled we went outside.  It was cloudy out and we could hear thunder rumbling in the distance.  Since we had power we knew it wasn’t a transformer blowing…it was lightning.  It struck so close to our house that we lost our two PC’s, the electric dog fence, our weather radio, and our internet.  The lightning fried each.  It was really frightening!  But we are very thankful that we didn’t have any more damage.

Needless to say, I have to catch you up on what has been happening around here!!

Balancing Act

My quest is teaching me some very important lessons.  Last Monday, I was full of gusto!  I got up really early and walked.  Then I was going to finish a couple of projects and write my 1500 words.  I managed to get it all done by 9:30pm.  I made 19 jars of muscadine jelly and a baby bib.  The jelly took over an hour from start to finish and about that long for the bib.  Here’s what I learned…I just need to stop putting things off and do them.  No time like the present.. right??

Writing 1500 words requires an hour and a half of time to complete.  Finding that much uninterrupted time is a little hard to do especially after neglecting the kids for the two projects. I am going to have to find a creative way to incorporate the writing time into my daily schedule.  It is really had though and I must admit some days last week I didn’t meet my goal…or at least I came up with 1000 words short of the accomplishment.

Newest Addition

A few months ago, a cocker spaniel was rescued.  It has taken a group of wonderful people three weeks to clip the muck off of his matted fur.  Between the flies and the smell, it wasn’t a pleasant task.  I got the privilege three days out of the three weeks.  This spaniel would lay between my legs and just look up at me saying, “Thank You.” with his big sad eyes.  He was so skinny and could hardly move from the matted hair.  It broke my heart especially when I found out that he was 10-12 years old.  That would mean he would never be adopted.  Dogs over 2 years of age  are difficult to adopt.  july 2010 006 His condition proved he was neglected and abused.  He was nothing more than a “reproducer.”  After my third day with him, I knew I had to take him in.  I approached Mark and he agreed for a trial period.  So far, so good.  He has livened up a lot.  He copies Ginger.  She dances for a treat.. so does he.  He follows her every where in the back yard.  His eye sight isn’t very good nor his hearing so we think he follows her to keep from getting lost in the big back yard.  He is really sweet and starved for attention.  I try to spend quality time with him loving him and rubbing his belly.  We have given him the name, Fred.  We want him to live out what is left of his life experiencing a real home and a family.

New Neighbors

Our neighborhood is expanding.  A new family has moved in and we really have mixed feelings about this family.  At the moment this is a family of four and they are planning to increase their number by the multitudes.  By their appearance they seem to be a very quiet family but something tells me they will reek havoc.  And Mark and I don’t want our kids to play with theirs.

Mark meet the new family while taking the trash can to the curb.  I got a snap shot of them…  Meet Mr. and Mrs. Fieldmice and their kids..

They built their home under the trash can..very ingenious if you ask me.. but can you imagine the fear when the roof was ripped off!!

Well, I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe 4th of July!  Hopefully, this week will be just as productive as last week.

God Bless… see you tomorrow… God willing!!

Prevent a Litter

March 5th, 2010

A couple of weeks ago, my 13yo and I were doing our usual volunteering at the Humane Society.  We brought along Grandma who was visiting from the Northeast.  Grandma likes to have a picture in her mind of our surroundings when we are talking about the places we go and the things we do.  She came along for the ride and, boy, did she have her eyes opened!!

We hadn’t been there very long.  It was a busy day of showing off the doggies and kitties to promising families.  Grandma had lint roller duty……stacks of surgery cloths needed a good lint roller session…..  My 13yo busy doing what she does best:  working with the animals and helping the staff get their jobs done.  I was answering the phone and showing the animals.  Just your typical day!!

A lady showed up with a box.  That is one of two things:  kittens or puppies.  Her facial expression was mixed with heartbreak and disgust.  She explained that someone threw a trash bag along side her driveway…. take a look at what was inside……

that is right…. 6, not even a week old, puppies……….heartbreaking, isn’t it??

They looked pretty healthy.  Immediately, the director, Ann, jumped on the phone and called a volunteer who graciously takes in these little angels to bottle feed around the clock (every three hours).  But until she could arrive to take the sweeties home, we got to bottle feed them.

They were only the size of my palm.  We wrapped them in a cloth, turned them back like a baby, cradled them and kept them from squirming…. all the while using a syringe to give them puppy formula.

Grandma feeding the little thing…….she almost put it in her purse to take back with her…..

They were so tiny!!  So sweet!!  And they are God’s creatures!!!!  Please prevent a litter….. fix your critter!!

I am happy to report that the volunteer came in last week….. they are all thriving and are beginning to open their eyes…… hopefully within a couple of months they will be available to adopt……spayed and neutered.

God Bless……
